Inviting football fans and interested individuals to join our Sunday Games at the Tangeb Ground.
Anyone including Foreigners, Locals, and Natives who want play can find us there at the baseball field below St. Mary's Highschool.

Games start mostly at 2-3 pm on Sundays, however, there are times that we play every afternoon during weekdays. If you guys notice someone shouting and ball kicking at the ground please don't hesitate to come and join us there... Everyone is welcomed.
Football in Sagada was started by Steeve Jackson, an Australian guy who loved Sagada and the sport that he organized trainings and competition for the locals. He found happiness helping us in the introduction of the sport, and his legacy lives on. Thanks Steeve..

Surrounding Sagada are Mountain Chains from every direction, the best view would come from Mount Ampacao. The Hike from Ampacao to Lake Danum provides a tourist with not just great sceneries but a view of different highland plants like berries, pitcher plants, orchids etc.

Tired and still huffing and puffing, yet triumphant and fulfilled, Jomar and Len didn't miss the chance to do some stunts at Mt. Ampacao. "Yes, we made it!"

When at Lake Danum, you could stay for a while to have a glimpse of the sun setting behind the mountains of the west.

Jomar, Len and Leo (our guide), after climbing Mt. Ampacao, relaxes in front of the awe-inspiring Lake Danum, sharing stories, making more and more good memories.
As the sun turns red, love and romance smells the cold, refreshing air of Lake Danum. Jomar and Len were engaged in Sagada, went to Sagada for honeymoon and celebrated their second anniversary in Sagada.

Aside from Guiding, SaGGAs is well known for its Community Services. They are volunteers in Rescues, Medical missions and outreach services, etc.

SaGGAs boys Preparing their Lectures!

Now, Schools of Sagada are tapping the organization for their scouting programs.
Last September, the guides were tasked to teach the Girsl Scouts at Lake Danum Camp with regards to Basic First aiding, Basic Rope tying, lashing, and Survival concepts

Around 20 volunteers gave their time and effort for these anual activity of the different schools in the municipality.

Balangagan Cave

Just when you thought you ran out of sites to visit in Sagada,
THINK AGAIN!

Better than the cave connection, this offers greater views of Rock formation such as Stalactites, Stalagmites, Pillars/Columns, Draperies and Flowstones. This dry cave is the least visited cave, some tour guides haven't even been here.
Located at the southern part of Sagada, one would need to hike atleast 5 kilometers from town or would hire a vehicle to get you nearer.
Getting there, it involves longer hiking distance compared to other popular cave destination in Sagada.

This site will be one AMAZING Adventure

Our Top 10 Most Memorable Sagada Moment

(aka This is Why You Need SaGGAs)

10. ...you'll miss out the enjoyment of giggling when you and your guide mischievously tease other tourists on the Echo Valley by answering back to their shouts.

Other Tourist: Hi!!!
Us: Hello..low..low (May echo effect parin dapat kahit fake lang)

9. ...you'll always need their assurance that what you're doing is safe.

One thing on my to do list is to dive from the highest rock of Bokong falls. I stood there for few minutes, hesitating, until the guide told me that it was safe to jump. If it wasn't for him, I'm still this itching daredevil who did not take the risk.

8. ...the experience can never get any more raw than hearing stories from the locals.

After our caving, we invited Erwin and Sotero for dinner. It was nice soaking all up their cultural stories. They have very interesting stories about weddings, in which they invited us to witness one, but it was 2 days from that night.
7. ...you're spontaneity will not be tested.

We were supposed to go home after that night but because of that wedding invitation, we decided to stay some more. We managed to fit our budget into four days, talk about real adventure! We did not witness the ceremony itself, but we joined the preparation, which was equally satisfying. A cultural immersion indeed!
6. ...you will always need their lamps/ flashlight/ ropes.

We've made a mistake of saving up 400 pesos by going to Lake Danum all by ourselves (there were only two of us). We knew sunset would be marvelous at that area, but what we did not consider was walking all the way back from Lake Danum back to our inn. It was getting dark and we were literally running because the of darkness will fall any moment, as in total darkness Imagine: rough road with no lamp posts. I wished we had Sotero's lamp/flashlight at that moment.

5. ...you'll miss laughing your ass off on some of the silliest yet funniest things your SaGGA might say or do.

I just find it hilarious when Sotero addresses Erwin's arms as "kahoy" whenever we need to step on them. Also when Erwin refuses to accept our apology whenever we uses parts of his body as step ladders, he says "makukuha ba ng sorry yun??" but of course not meaning it. But my favorite is that when Erwin says he rarely allows his photo taken, so I was glad we had our photo together, only to find out that only his headlamp was visible on the entire photo!

4. ...you'll never know Gareth and you will never notice his omnipresence.

We saw him for the first time in their office. After that we saw him just about anywhere, anytime. We saw him on the road, inside the cave, at the Kiltepan peak, at front of our inn, at the barbeque area, in front the store, inside his car, on his motorcycle, just about anywhere. But what's great about that is he never fails to greet us and ask how we are. It was indeed a warm welcome.

3. ...you won't have something to look forward to.
We got invited to the annual SaGGAs Bonfire Fest this coming December. It definitely sounds like fun!

2. ...you'll won't receive the coolest catch phrase "You're no longer a spelunker, you're now a caver!"
After our 3 and a half hours of Crystal cave exploration, that compliment totally nailed it.

1. ...you will have a chance of landing on genuinely kind-hearted persons like most of them are.

My heart melted when they popped out Gatorade and a bread inside the cave for us. They actually shared their food, drinks and even cigarette to us. I can go on and on naming their voluntary helps, big or small but let me just tell you, extending unpaid services is beyond what they're called for and yet they are more than willing to give it. Need I say more?

Hands up to you guys! More power and hope to see you and your beautiful land again soon.

HAHAHA! Success! Day1: We are now certified SPELUNKERS! AWESOME!

We had 6 hours of extreme workout! 6 hours of twisting our bodies just to get through the small rock holes. 6 hrs of keeping ourselves grip off from falling over the steep rocks during our Cave connections. Yet still managed to crack some jokes all throughout! Hahaha!! Imagine that? Kumota na kami ng exercise good for 10 years! HAHAHA!
Day3:

Waiting for the sun to rise

Close encounter with the clouds. Priceless! ♥ It was so freakin COLD!! Then, went shopping at Mercury drugstore in Baguio to get all kinds of painkillers.

Mushroom Season

Late May to July is the Mushroom hunting season

(early in the morning, hunting some mushrooms @ Langtiw)

Guests could actually request a guide to help them out with the activity.
The guide will identify what's edible and what's not.

the first mushrooms to emerge called "sedesdem". We cook these as adobo or sometimes mixed with vegetables.

Most often, mushrooms are found at the pine tree forests at "Langtiw"(the mountain going to the cave) "Kapinitan" ( mountain going to the water falls) and "Kanip-aw" (the mountain after echo valley).

The "UPEY" this graying looking mushroom is cooked for soups and for veggies.

It's is a really exciting experience, for finding one mushroom gives you joy and fulfillment.

"Etag" Salt pork, one of the main dishes every household in Sagada prepares during parties and celebrations. It is often mixed with Chicken and cooked know as the Pinikpikan.

If you are curious of its taste, there's only one way to find out..

The eatery also offers other Filipino and Foreign cuisine, so at least you will have something to select from.

Pinikpikan eatery is found at Dagdag Sagada, just near George Guest House, Canaway lodge and a few clicks from Residential lodge and Travellers Inn.

Tita Ligaya as what we call her is offering a tranquil and peaceful transient type lodging. Their place is less populated and is located near the pine tree forest at Kapinitan. During the rainy season, one can just go out the forest and collect some mushrooms for food. A great experience.

SaGGAs Bonfire Fest 2010

It was d-day for the SaGGAs team, the busiest day of the month, the time where influx of tourists is at its peak, streets are full of vehicles, lodgings fully booked, restaurants busy, traffic jams at the caves, the waterfalls crowded and guides unavailable.

While everyone one else are busy in Sagada, few good men and women are silently working hand in hand in order to provide a memorable event for the guests.

The annual SaGGAs Bonfire Fest, now at its 3rd year of celebration, the organization has been successful in providing a unique experience for the participants of the event.

As usual, pinikpikan on the menu, adobo can’t be out of a pinoys meal, dinuguan, pulutan, menudo and veggies were served for the guests.

Over-flowing wines, band jamming, gongs beating,

and the music playing wile the guests dance and surround the fire.

The event will never be complete without the traditional display of gong dances performed by non other than the guides themselves.

To our valued guests, thank you for attending our event. We apologize for the delays and mistakes we have done. We have learned and enjoyed serving you guys; you contributed much for the event and the organizations success.

SAGADA…SAGGAS (major, major LIKE!)

395kms away from Luneta; 5,000ft above sea level; 12hrs joyride… WOW SAGADA Mt. Province! It was my third attempt to visit and explore the so-called “Shangri-la of the Philippines”, and finally I was able to set my foot step on it.
The stressful-butt aching joyride vanished when we saw that we’re 385kms away from Manila, and finally 10 more kms to reach Sagada. We arrived high noon so we decided to had our lunch at Salt & Pepper Diner. After the savory lunch, we started exploring the wealth and wonders of Sagada. Accompanying our group was Daryl of SAGGAS and Ms. Sharon of Tour Tayo. On top of our itinerary was the Echo Valley where the Hanging Coffins were located. Next stop was the Sumaguing Cave where our skills and energy were tested. (I still can’t imagine how S’Jay was able to get through the wee channel). After finishing cave spelunking, we were pleased and overwhelmed of having to survive it. Before our Day1 ends, we had dinner (bonfire) at Rock-in Café.
Our Day2 started very early as we went to Kiltepan Pk. to witness the rising of the sun. Then, we had our breakfast at the famous Lemon Pie House. After the watery breakfast, we proceeded to trek Bomod-Ok Falls. It was a memorable 4hrs trek (due to adrenaline rush, I was able to dipped myself in the ice-cold waterfalls). We had our lunch at Yoghurt House then continue to explore Lake Danum, Pottery House, Ganduyan Museum, & Sagada Weaving. To cap our tour was to hunt for souvenirs, where we immediately looked for the shirt saying we survived Sagada.
Though time really flies fast, we had a very wonderful and memorable experienced in Sagada. Thanks to our guide Daryl for being a very nice buddy, for sharing thoughts of their Shangri-la, for letting us discover the wonders of Sagada even for a short period time, and for making us feel the warm welcome of sagadians.
Thanks to Ms. Sharon of Tour Tayo (and Kuya Jun our driver) for arranging our tour. Thanks to my travel buddies- Archie, S’Jay, Angel, M’Malou, Ronie, Kenson, Wency, Rhoda, and Diane for making our trip superb and fun filled. … ‘Til next time… my visit to SAGADA deserve a (major, major LIKE!) shout-out.

BLS Training 2010

Every 2 years, SaGGAs guides are required to undergo refreshments in Basic Life Support (BLS), First Aid and Rescue training program conducted by the Bureau of Fire Sagada.

A plaque of recognition was given to the organization for its heroic participation in the rescue of a vehicular accident that happened 1 week after the training.

Our objectives were to prepare our guides with the knowledge, skills and up to date information regarding the tourism industry. We allotted 3 grueling days of lectures, demonstrations and actual tour guiding for our trainees.

An Experience that will last a Lifetime

Our adventure starts on Day 2 of our tour. Though we had a tighter schedule, sure enough we had jam-packed exciting experiences the Sagada has to offer, - nice and warm people, the best sights, and the best experiences.

Starting from 4:30am, our guides cum drivers Sir Elvies and Wilner brought us to Kiltepan Tower to witness the sunrise. Our group was the first to arrive in Kiltepan. Sa sobrang kapal ng fog, nahiyang magpakita si Haring Araw.

Conquering Sagada in just an overnight stay, sounds impossible??
Of course! With all the sites Sagada can offer to first timers like us,
an overnight stay is definitely insufficient to explore every place...
But with the help of SAGGAS especially Kuya Kirky,we managed to experience
the best offers a first timer could get.
We have done cave connection on the first day; LUMIANG BURIAL CAVE - SUMAGUING CAVE.

plus the famous Echo Valley and Hanging coffins on the second day.
Sure it was tiring, not to mention the muscle pains we had after all these activities.
However the ironic part was, we just felt it on our way back to Manila! hahaha
I'll just end this up saying :

Once upon a time, there were three goddesses (daw) who ventured the Shangrila of the Philippines, a place they thought, heard and dreamed of visiting.

Determined to give worth to their travel, they bit an itinerary I myself considered as insane and impossible for tourists who do not have the history of much physical activities. Sorry for the doubt ladies, ha! Ha! Ha!
With Determination, little expectation, and a whole lot of luck (I mean lots of it, seriously), these journalists survived to tell stories of their unforgettable experiences with pride and sense of achievement.

Seems easy but it ain’t.
With the Bomod-ok Falls tour exempted, all sites were visited w/o hiring a vehicle. With luck on their side, distances of hikes were greatly lessened by passing vehicles.
With every ride, eto ang sabi ni Anna “ayyy, layo pala ang lalakaran naten sana!”

Here's their Story!!
They traveled the great distance!
Reached the misty pine forest at Kiltepan
Descended the slippery trails
& entered tiny holes inside the cave connection!
Crossed one mountain top to another at Mt. Ampacao! (drip-dry mode)
Hiked the rice Terraces and
Took a bath at a freezing pool in Bomod-ok

Ana, Leth, Patty…. You might not have seen the sun rising nor setting; he left a message for you. Di ko na matandaan pinagsasasabi pero ang point nya ay “para may balikan daw kayo” :D hehehe

Girl power!!!!

These ladies had an odd experience of traveling with atleast 5 different types of Vehicles :d
A jeep after ng cave connection,van to bomod ok,fx of daryll from rock inn etc..:D

Most of the girls were really exhausted and "injured" na rin pero nakuha pang tumalon dun sa may lake danum :P kaya we are definitely coming back...
Yung sunset nahiya magpakita.... kamusta na kaya si rod? heartbroken pa rin kaya? :D

"atleast may nakita kayong bagong friends dun noh" :D

it was a bliss coming to sagada :) worth the long bumpy ride and every rocky road ! (ang sabi ni Carlene) :D

Going up North along the National Road leading to Sagada from Baguio, one would pass by the Highest Highway system in the country. Located at Cattubo, Atok Benguet, the road is at 7,400 ft. or 2286 meters above sea level.

People around the area, need no refrigerator to chill their products or vegetables because the weather is cold enough to do the job.

Lucky for tourists who travel with their vehicles along the Halsema for they have the opportunity to dry by for rest and picture taking.

Mr. Abuan, our trainee from Ambasing is probably the most motivated learning in guiding amongst the members of the organization. He is so interested, he easily adopts different guiding techniques from the regulars.
Melecio is a very helpful lad and has an overwhelming patience. He assists tourists the best way he can and talks to guests as much as possible.

Happily meeting friends

And experiencing our culture
Thank you for spending the night with our group.
Success of future bonfires depends on what we experienced with you our guests.

We would like to take the opportunity to recognize the men and women who sacrificed their time and efforts for the success of the event, considering the tiresome work that the massive influx of tourists has brought to the people of Sagada.

Last years bonfire was an experience, this year’s bonfire will be a blast!!!!!
We are inviting all Guests and visitors to join this event on the 28th day of December 2009. Program will start 8:30 pm but meals will be served 7:00 pm so be there earlier.

Venue is set at Kiltepan PeaK.

200/pax is the registration fee (meals, transportation, souvenirs etc.)
Registration will close 7 pm on the 27th of December.

Every year, at no precise date, Sagada celebrates a unique cultural festival. It happens 3 to 4 times a year, designed to start or end different cycles of events.

At the "Dap-ay" the younglings simultaneously butcher the Pig, the Dog, and the a Chicken.

"lakay" bawing of patay keeps his tobacco on his head while conversing with the "begnas" celebrant "lakay" Cadiogan.

Philippine Blog Awards

Finalist to the Philippine Blog Awards, SaGGAs made it to the travel Category along with Lemon Pie House of Business category.

The Awards night was held at PETA-PHINMA Theater New Manila Quezon City of October 9, 2009.

Not expecting the blog making it to the finals, my sisters skipped their Classes and Project activities to accompany me for the night.

It was the first for all of us to join such event, an activity that is outrageously exciting, joyful, and totally awesome.

Making our way to the entrance, we were greeted by the organizers with warmth and offered with incredibly satisfying food. I wished we could have arrived there earlier... hahahaha

After eating, visiting booths, collecting freebies, and meeting other bloggers, the awards activity finally started.

We totally enjoyed every bit of that evening as beautiful and handsome people hit the stage with humor and short presentations for the awards.

SaGGAs and LPH did not make it to number 1 but the recognition to finals was enough to fuel the flame for improvement and continuation.

Mr. Sandy Dawey our hard hitting guy who grew up playing baseball is a native of Bugang, the vegetable basket of the town.

He hardly gets serious and jokes a lot, he is a natural in dealing with guests and a very helpful guide as well.

Sandy is an good learner, being able to cope with every situation given to him. This person is currently doing part time guiding while attending to his fields in their community.

Not actually the answers we’re looking for, it’s about their attire.

All of emm are in leggings/tights/spandex right?

why?

It gives the lower body easy movement and flexibility.
creates a secondary skin to your legs reducing the risk from scratches
easily dries up when soaked wet, and helps keep the body warm
maintains a lovely figured image of your selves in photos.

*note: select the tougher garment when deciding to wear leggings because some rocks are sharp enough to tear your pants once you sat on it. An alternative is to wear a short pant over the leggings.

Other options:

jog pants – this is maybe very helpful to protect your skin from possible scratches but might get heavy once soaked wet.

Short pants – makes movement easy and you look pretty much lovelier looking on photos, but, not as effective as long pants that protect your body from possible scratches.

For upper body

any shirt can do.
easy dry shirts are advised.
avoid using whites because of stains.

For MEN:
Any short pants can do however; we also would want to be incredibly amazing, neat and athletic looking in photo right?
So here are some suggestions:

cycling shorts/trunks

above the knee shorts ex. football shorts

For the upper body:

body fit shirts
sleeveless shirts
easy dry shirts

FOOTWEAR

Many tourists consider hiking sandals as the best footwear for the spelunking activity. Not actually right. Spelunking is quite different from Hiking.

What’s the best then?

Water shoe – the idea is to establish a good grip on the limestone rocks inside the cave. The flexibility of the rubber in the shoe adopts the contour of the rock in the cave trail and easily dries up when wet.

But if you don’t have it, don’t bother buying one. Instead use an:

Ordinary Slippers/tong/flip flops – there are other parts of the cave that walking barefooted is actually best, so for easier carriage and practicality, get the simplest one you can find. Notice that most of the subjects in the photos are barefooted.

Croc or clog type slippers – would also be functional enough to protect the feet from scratches and gives a comfortable feeling while making it to the cave trail.

Other things you can use:

gloves – although not necessary, gloves can protect you from sharp rocks and in contact from mud and guano

head lamp – very very helpful if you have one of your own, always have them turned off when pausing for a picture though but don’t bother buying one if you don’t have them. The guides have their own lamps to illuminate your path well.

to sum it up, this is an ideal attire one should be using.. for girls
